Local SEO: visibility in your actual service area

Customers look for more than a service: they need someone who can actually help at their location. Local SEO makes clear what you offer, where you work and how to contact you. Based in Diemen, Slimmer dan Gisteren helps businesses across the Netherlands; you do not need to be based in Amsterdam.

  1. Service
  2. Service area
  3. Contact

01

First decide: local, regional or nationwide?

Local SEO matters when distance or accessibility affects a customer’s choice. Examples include a trades business visiting customers, a practice people visit or a shop with a physical location. If you operate exclusively online without in-person customer contact, the focus is usually your website and queries about your offering.

We map your actual service area: which services you deliver where, feasible travel time and where you want enquiries from. Nationwide services do not have to be limited to your home town. Your website should distinguish your real address from the places where you serve customers.

02

Three parts that need to work together

A business profile, service page and contact form each serve a different purpose. We check that they show consistent services and business details, and that visitors can take the next step. Implementation depends on what is already in place.

Website

Make the service, audience, availability and service area clear. A local page needs real information, such as access details or how you work at customer premises.

Google Business Profile

If your business is eligible, we review its category, services, opening hours and linked website. We do not use fictitious locations to suggest a larger footprint.

Enquiry journey

Visitors should be able to check whether you serve their town and how to enquire. We review phone links, booking routes and enquiry instructions.

03

When is your business eligible for a Google Business Profile?

Google requires in-person contact with customers. This can happen at an eligible business location or when you visit customers at their premises. An online-only business is not eligible. A Business Profile is not a general requirement for your website to appear in regular search results.

If you visit customers but do not receive them at your own address, a service-area profile is appropriate: your address is hidden from customers and you list where you actually work in person. A virtual office or an additional location without actual staff is not a way to claim a larger footprint. We check how you operate and your existing profile before changing details.

04

When does a town need its own page?

Adding a town name to identical text offers visitors little value. A separate page makes sense when you can explain something genuinely different: a real location, different services, local access or substantiated work in that area that you are allowed to show.

For a small service area, one strong service page with a clear explanation may be enough. We first examine existing queries and pages, then choose whether to improve, consolidate or create a page. This avoids similar pages targeting the same visitor without adding useful content.

05

What do you receive and how do we assess progress?

We agree which pages and profile elements to review. The output is a task list with identified inconsistencies, affected URLs and proposed improvements. After approval, we implement the agreed changes. You check facts such as hours, service area and services before publication.

We distinguish website traffic from regular search results from interactions with a business profile. In Search Console we review relevant queries and pages; for an accessible business profile we review available performance data separately. Where enquiries are measured, we consider their quality and location.

Local positions vary by searcher. Google identifies relevance, distance and prominence as important factors in local results. Setting a larger service area does not move your business physically closer. We therefore do not promise a fixed Maps position or use inaccurate geographic claims.

Frequently asked questions

Does my home address have to be public?

That depends on how you operate and the profile rules. If you visit customers and do not receive them at your address, a service-area profile may be appropriate. We first check eligibility and address settings against the requirements.

Can we maintain nationwide visibility too?

Yes. Local information can form part of a broader SEO approach. We keep the main service page focused on your full audience and add local detail only where it genuinely helps visitors.
